Southern Cross gathers every week at Bergvliet High School, in the Southern Suburbs, to celebrate what God is doing in our lives, to encourage one another and be encouraged by the truth of God’s word and the salvation we have through Jesus. We proclaim God’s truth, submitting ourselves to it, seeking to be transformed. We collectively worship, not as disconnected individuals but as a community, through music, teaching, prayer, and sacraments.
Below are some of the elements that featured in our gathering this week.
CALL TO WORSHIP:
1 Sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth.
2 Sing to the Lord, praise his name; proclaim his salvation day after day.
3 Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among
4 For great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; he is to be feared above all gods.
5 For all the gods of the nations are idols, but the Lord made the heavens.
6 Splendor and majesty are before him; strength and glory are
PRAYER OF CONFESSION:
Heavenly Father, You have loved us with an everlasting love,
but we have gone our own way and broken Your laws.
We are sorry for our sins and turn away from them.
For the sake of Your Son who died for us,
forgive us, cleanse us and change us.
By Your Holy Spirit, enable us to live for You,
and to please You more and more;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS:
But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, 5 he saved us, not
because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through
the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, 6 whom he poured out on us
generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, 7 so that, having been justified by his grace, we
might become heirs having the hope of eternal life.
